NYE Hangover Cures a la National Geographic

How are you feeling this first beautiful day of 2009? Hopefully you don't feel like I do right now: head about to explode, foul stomache , overly- fatigued. What did I do to deserve this? I am sure you all know the reason for my physical ailments. Thank god National Geographic came up with a few cures. Now if only I could find some German rollmaps or a sauna somewhere within a one block vicinity...But I am curious what is your best hangover cure? More champagne? Please help soon...

Pimm's Cup: On ice, 1/2 pimms, 1/2 gingerale, garnish with any combination of lime, lemon, mint...must have cucumber.

The cause of a hangover is a dehydrated hypothalamus. SO --- drink more water before drinking a lot of alcohol which is a diuretic that depletes you water levels, making your hypothalamus shrivel thus giving you a hangover!

Sounds like liquids are key...Pimm's cup is certainly better than pickled plum and pickled herring..

Ha! don't listen to those quacks! What you need is a quarter pounder with cheese, med fries and a diet coke (sometimes an apple pie also helps) works everytime!
And don't forget your milkthistle for the liver...

Mmmmm, grease and salt and apple pie. Just what I need! But what do I do with the milk thistle?

milk thistle has many magical properties but it's supposed to help your liver regenerate from the consumption of alcohol. I have a friend who swears on taking 2 - 3tablets before a heavy nite out and says she never gets a hangover. Jancis Robinson (famous wine writer here in London) also swears by it before big tastings. I take one a day as a supplement/preventative and I rarely get hangovers unless I mix everything up. Now, if only I could remember to load up on them before one of those mixed up nites out!
